Day 1: Bromo – Bondowoso (Overnight Stay)
Your journey begins in the morning after enjoying the stunning sunrise at Mount Bromo. After exploring the Bromo crater, sea of sand, and the savanna, we continue the journey to Bondowoso, the closest town to Mount Ijen for an overnight rest.
10:00 AM: Finish Bromo sunrise tour and breakfast.
11:00 AM: Depart from Bromo to Bondowoso.
02.30:00 PM: Lunch break on the way (local restaurant).
04:00 PM – 05:00 PM: Arrive in Bondowoso and check in at hotel.
Evening: Free time to rest or explore the city. Dinner at hotel or nearby restaurant.
Bondowoso is a peaceful town surrounded by nature and coffee plantations. It offers a perfect rest point before your early hike to Ijen. Get enough rest, as the hike will begin very early the next morning.
Day 2: Mount Ijen Blue Fire Trekking – Drop Off (Banyuwangi or Ketapang Port)
Ijen is famous for its rare blue fire phenomenon, which can only be seen before sunrise. The hike to the crater is challenging but rewarding with stunning views and sulfur mining activity.
12:00 AM (Midnight): Wake up and prepare for the hike.
12:30 AM: Depart from hotel in Bondowoso to Paltuding (Ijen base camp) – around 1.5–2 hours’ drive.
02:15 AM more less: Arrive at Paltuding, begin trekking to the crater. The trail is about 2,5 kilometers more less and takes around 1.5–2 hours depending on your pace.
04:00 AM: Reach the crater and witness the magical blue flames inside the Ijen crater .
The Path Down to Ijen Crater
From the top of Mount Ijen, there is a narrow and steep path that leads down to the crater. This trail is used by both tourists and sulfur miners. It takes about 30–40 minutes to walk down carefully. The path is rocky and can be slippery, especially at night. Good shoes, a flashlight, and a gas mask are strongly recommended. The miners carry heavy loads of sulfur up and down this path every day. Please be respectful and give them space to pass.
05:00 AM – 05:30 AM: Sunrise over the crater lake – the view is breathtaking with turquoise water and volcanic landscape.
06:00 AM: Start descending back to Paltuding.
07:30 AM: Arrive back at the parking area and enjoy a simple breakfast.
08:00 AM – 09:00 AM: Drive to your next destination – either drop off at Ketapang Ferry Port, Banyuwangi city, or continue to Bali.
Important Notes:
Make sure to bring a gas mask, warm clothes (when dry season some time 5 degrees, Jun-July-August, flashlight/headlamp, and comfortable hiking shoes. Not recommended pregnant traveler, people with ashma, and other problem health,thats why be have health document from doctor since 2024 mid year.
The Ijen area can be very cold and windys at night, especially before sunrise.
The blue fire is only visible when it’s dark and is caused by ignited sulfuric gas – it’s one of only two places in the world where this phenomenon occurs. The nature phenomenon create burning sulfur, be different everynight,depending weather and how heat sulfur crater ITS self proses, so there is no guarantee to see with clear.
